Golf Magazine said that “You may open your eyes and believe you’re at Augusta.” We appreciate the praise, but our summer weather’s a little better than Georgia’s. If golf is your passion, Schaffer’s Mill will exceed all your expectations.
With more than a dozen mountains within an hour - and adjacent Northstar available via our hourly private ski shuttle throughout the winter - those who favor the slopes will favor Schaffer's Mill. And did we mention our private, in-village ski lodge at Northstar?
From hiking to biking to fresh tracks to watersports, the dedicated Schaffer’s Mill Adventures team connects our Members to everything Tahoe has to offer. Whether your just borrowing a club bike to ride the trails or looking for a once-in-a-lifetime river rafting excursion, our team can make it happen.
What makes a home and community special is the memories made there. That’s why we treat every holiday as a special gift, from our blowout July 4th party to the gingerbread contest around Christmas to the all day, every day fervor of Ski/Skate Week, families build traditions at Schaffer’s Mill.
Whether it’s playing an incredible round of golf, skiing the powdered slopes of nearby Northstar, or spending time on Lake Tahoe, Schaffer’s Mill is the perfect starting point for a lifetime of memories. Set between historic Truckee and stunning Lake Tahoe on one of the most desirable cul-de-sacs in the nation (Lahontan and Martis Camp are our neighbors), Schaffer’s Mill is an incredible four-season family community. It’s a place where friends gather, celebrate and enjoy each other’s company. Where kids play, neighbors become lifetime friends and where the word “community” means more than roads, homes and buildings.
We invite you to discover Schaffer’s Mill. Whether you would like to play the golf course (available on Mondays to non-Member play) or you’re considering making us your home, we would love to speak with you more about what we have to offer.

Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club debuted in 2008 to immediate acclaim, being named the #1 new private club in California and among the top ten new clubs in the country by Golfweek magazine. The outward or “Meadow” nine ambles through firs, spruce and Ponderosas at the base of a ridge, while the inward “Mountain” nine showcases elevation changes of up to 400 feet, with magnificent 360° views of the Martis Valley, Lookout Mountain and the Carson Range. The par 71 course plays to over 7,000 yards and is considered by many as the finest golf course in the Tahoe and Truckee area.
Today the club is primarily reserved for its very fortunate golf members; however, daily fee access is provided on Mondays and reciprocal play for Members of our private clubs can be arranged. The club also accepts a limited number of outside tournaments each year.

A signature championship golf course designed by PGA Tour legend Johnny Miller and the late John Harbottle places certain demands on a golfer. Fortunately, club membership at Schaffer’s Mill is a straightforward affair. We have crafted memberships for residents and non-residents alike, and our team can help you find the best fit for you. Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club is what’s called a right-to-use Club, meaning you get to enjoy all of the benefits of the amenities without carrying financial responsibilities like operating assessments and capital calls. Members are simply required to pay a modest one-time enrollment fee and then ongoing annual dues.
Schaffer’s Mill Members and golf guests are able to enjoy The Market, a quaint pool- and golf-side venue perfect for lunch or an evening among friends. The menu includes classics you’d expect plus some regional favorites that you may not. Available daily through the season and on a more limited basis in the winter, The Market is a great starting or finishing point for your day at the Mill.
Coming in 2019 we’ll debut our feature restaurant, 1867, as part of the now-under-construction South Village portion of our clubhouse campus. Centered around an amazing indoor and outdoor bar with views of Lookout Mountain and the golf course, 1867 and it’s adjacent “Horn Bar” will be a can’t-miss for Members and limited outside guests as well.
