Friends. Family. Fun. It’s a fairly simple way to sum up what we believe makes Schaffer’s Mill so special. Whether it’s cross-country skiing in the winter or lounging by the pool in the summer or checking out an outdoor concert in Schaffer’s Square, we believe what makes our community distinct is more about the “who” than the “what.” If you’re looking for a place where you can start your family’s traditions, explore Schaffer’s Mill.
The 7.4-acre Clubhouse Village is comprised of two main buildings, the North and South Village. Designed by Ward Young Architects of Truckee and located in the center of the Schaffer's Mill community, the campus already includes a Sports Shop, The Market (restaurant and café), members-only men’s and women’s Locker rooms, Millworks (workout facility), a resort-style Pool, Peg’s Poolside and Schaffer's Square. Construction on the South Village is currently underway. This will be home to the feature restaurant – 1867 – as well as our at-the-turn grab & go, private dining, and more.
The Schaffer’s Mill Base Camp at Northstar provides members a ”home base” on the mountain. Located in the heart of the Village at Northstar, the space features comfortable couches, a warm fireplace, multiple TV’s, refreshments, private ski storage, private equipment storage, boot dryers, and convenient day lockers. Combined with the Mill’s Shuttle Service – providing transportation to and from the mountain – you have an incredible ski-in, ski-out-like experience.
Make your day in Tahoe even more relaxing by using one of our Club Shuttles. In the winter we go on regular intervals to and from Northstar, and in the summer it’s available for bespoke adventures.
The spacious resort-style pool is the place for families to swim, play, cool off, or just relax. The spacious decking features heated pavers for year-round use, a spa, umbrella-shaded tables, a firepit, a kids play area, and more. Plus, drink and food service is available from the adjacent Peg's Poolside.
Schaffer’s Mill features one of the premier tennis programs in the Lake Tahoe area. Schaffer’s Mill has partnered with Match Point Consultants, a tennis group co-founded by 2013 Wimbledon Mixed-Doubles Champion and 12-time Grand Slam Doubles Champion Daniel Nestor, to bring much more than a typical tennis program to Schaffer’s Mill. This is complemented by our club leadership team, which includes former touring professionals Brent Haygarth and Tara Snyder.
As if Mother Nature didn't provide enough amusement for kids of all ages, we went ahead and added to the fun with what we affectionately refer to as "Li'l Mill." This sports court area located next to the South Village of the clubhouse and directly across from the tennis courts includes a basketball hoop and lots of goodies available for checkout, from bicycles to frisbees to games of all kinds.
Available 24/7 to Members, Millworks is the functional fitness space strength training, boosting cardio, or participating in a variety of classes. In addition to traditional fitness equipment, Millworks embraces the current “self-powered” fitness options, including spaces for P-90X and CrossFit style workouts.
If the outdoors are your passion, the Truckee/Tahoe region simply can't be beat. The township has come together to create a network of diverse trails, including paved, unpaved but finished, and forest floor. One of the most popular trails in the region – Trail 6 – connects directly into Schaffer's Mill and takes you throughout the Martis Valley.
Part outfitter, part guide service, part cool local connection, the mission of Schaffer’s mill Adventures (SMA) is to create amazing experiences for Schaffer’s Mill Members, their families and friends, either at the Club or throughout the Truckee/Tahoe area. SMA is located in the clubhouse and provides experiences and activities for all ages. These include everything from tennis camps and guided hikes to wakeboard lessons on Lake Tahoe, fresh-tracks ski days and much more.
Superlatives are over-used in today's world, but in the case of our Spa on the Rocks, "really super awesome" is the best description we can devise. Three jetted spas at three different elevations tucked into three native granite outcroppings – all with seclusion in one direction and unfettered views of Northstar in the other. It’s a one-of-a-kind amenity that has quickly become a year-round favorite of Members.
Set between the North and South Villages of the clubhouse campus, Schaffer’s Square is designed as a gathering place for the many outdoor festivals and celebrations which take place throughout the year. The grass portion is home to our giant kids games like chess, checkers, and cornhole. And the built-in stage houses our visiting musicians, which is the past has included Edwin McCain, local favorites Ike & Martin, and many others.
Communities are built around traditions and rituals, and few rituals are as sacred as the breaking of bread among friends and family. We think that's why our relatively simple idea of Saturday evening parties in our lakeside park has been so well received by Members. There’s no fancy production- just friendly people enjoying tasty food and cold drinks around the barbecue. Sometimes simple is just right.
What do you do when your highly-rated, meticulously-maintained golf course is buried under snow? Well, many of our Members choose to make it a cross-country ski or snowshoeing adventure. It's a great way to burn off steam or burn off the extra holiday calories. For those only partially committed to the idea of skiing where you have to work to move, loaner equipment is available from the Schaffer's Mill Adventures team.
